The Spirit of Freedom is an historic aircraft that was part of the great Berlin Airlift of 1948-1949, helping to carry tons of supplies to more than two million citizens where roads had been blocked by the Soviet Union. This particular plane became known as the “Candy Bomber” when its pilot dropped candy in handkerchief parachutes to children in the area.
The Spirit of Freedom will land at the Williams County Airport in Bryan on Friday, July 11 at approximately noon for a two-hour stay. The public is invited to see this unique piece of history before it heads to its next destination. Follow us on Facebook for updates on the plane’s exact arrival time the day of the visit.
